Not going to lie - it was very odd to watch all of my belongings getting packed in boxes and sent away. Almost sureal.
Once everything was out, we cleaned the house and took 1 last picture of us there.
It was good to us for 9 1/2 years and we had lots of memories there including where we brought Julia home for the first time. *sniff* Yes, I cried. A lot.
During the week, we were able to visit with friends and family, go to Julia's last swim and gynmastics lessons and taking care of last minute things before we headed out on Friday afternoon.
I was able to get in some Ironman training but it was definitely abbreviated and I had to adjust accordingly. I also had to ship my bike separately so it would arrive sooner, and my gym membership also ended, leaving me with no bike and no pool after Tuesday. But I managed to do the following:
- Run: 23 miles
- Bike: 75 miles
- Swim: 1.12 miles
- Total mileage: just shy of 100
- Total training time: just shy of 8 hours
So Friday came, we said our final goodbyes (which sucked) and headed out. We had to check Maverick (our rabbit for those who may not remember) into the cargo hold (and pay $200 for him to fly thankyouverymuch...are you kidding me, Delta?! It's a rabbit.) He was scared out of his mind -poor guy
I love Julia's little hand...she was telling him it would be ok *sniff*
The trip started out well as a stranger handed us these bad boys as we were in the airport:
We must have looked stressed...but so nice of him!
We ran around with Julia to try and wear her out
hehe!
Luckily Julia slept 3 out of the 4 1/2 hours on the plane which was so great. We arrived early into Seattle, got our luggage, picked up Maverick and got the rental car. Easy peasy!
Seriously - could she be any cuter!?
Our first full day in Seattle was almost picture perfect - we went for a 7+ mile run along Puget Sound, saw a pack of sea lions about 20 feet from us swimming around, went to Pike Place market, got some food and fresh flowers (ah-mazing!)....all before 12 noon!
little seal sunning himself!
Julia loves Rachel the pig at the market
These are $10 each. Seriously. Come visit us and get some.
That evening, our friend/roommate Kevin (a.k.a. Uncle Kevin to Julia) graciously offered to watch Julia so we could go out to dinner with our friends Dave and Julie! It was such a rarity - I think Rob and I have only been out together, without Julia, maybe twice in the past 6 months! Definitely a fun evening and I enjoyed every minute of it!
Here's a picture of me with Julie:
Hopeful for many more fun evenings out!
So far Seattle has treated us well! We found a temporary nanny for Julia for the next 5 weeks until we move into our rental house, we're unpacked and getting acquainted with the city! Oh and hopefully my bike arrives soon too so I can get back to training...
Here's to new adventures!
Questions for you:
1) Have you moved to a new city? How long did it take you to feel "settled"?
2) How is your training going?
3) Anything fun to share?

So impressed with your training time amidst all the craziness! WAY TO GO!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm training for the Wish-A-Mile 300 bike tour and need to log 100 miles on the bike each week up until then.. this nutty Michigan weather isn't making it easy!
Enjoy your new home! Seattle can use a little more Sparty pride!!
Yay! I was and am so impressed with how quickly you got things set up! I looooove Pike's Place but don't go very often. The flowers are so amazing. Let's figure out Saturday morning (and we can take more pictures!)
ReplyDeleteChallenge: Do repeats on the hill above Golden Park. Great views of the Olympic Mountains are you reward for each one. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteJulia is so adorable! Looks like a good time!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the move!!!! I've moved several times and getting settled in a new space is never the same! Our move to AR was definitely the hardest one and took about a year (or maybe more)!
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys have arrived safely and seem to be settling in really quickly! Thank goodness I haven't moved much and we've only moved once from college to our house since getting married. Hope your bike arrives soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're getting settled in and I'm only a wee bit jealous of you and Julie hanging out :). You are like a super mama still fitting in so many workouts amidst the move! Sending u hugs, miss u!!
ReplyDeleteSeattle is my choice to move to, if I would ever move. There is always stuff going on and things to do. Love it up there!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on surviving the move - especially with a little one in tow. We're looking to move from Australia to England in a couple of years and I'm already getting apprehensive about what will be involved!
ReplyDeleteYou're incredible to keep up the solid training while moving and being wife/mother at the same time. Way to go! You looked like you had a red nose from crying in the last picture in your house. :( I'm glad you're loving Seattle so much. Enjoy!
