Monday Mantra

We almost made it through the Monday after a holiday! Congrats - it's not an easy feat for sure.

Today was a rough one for me - the insomnia bug bit again last night and I was up until after 4am. No idea why. Every time I tried to fall asleep, I couldn't. My mind was racing, I started thinking about everything I should get up and be doing (even though it was 3am!). So I've been dragging all day.

via Google - this was SO ME last night!

I was supposed to do a double workout - swim and bike - today and I opted to only do my bike ride. I felt like my body wouldn't have reacted well to trying to push through a full work day, a bike and a swim (along with taking care of Julia too). I feel guilty but I really need to knock that off - I can't feel guilty about missing 1 swim when I'm still 220+ days out from my Ironman. I think I'll be ok!

So anyway...here is my new mantra:

I found this yesterday when I was perusing Facebook and thought it was appropo as I prepare for our cross-country move in 18 days.

18 days.

Wow.

There is a lot to get done between now and the 27th but I am trying to keep everything straight. My list is growing by the day, but I'm trying to take it one step at a time and remind myself that I can do it.

So there you have it.

Hope you all had a great Easter (if you celebrate it) - Julia certainly did and was visited by the Easter bunny TWICE - once at our house, once at my parents' house. She was a lucky girl!
what a haul!

lots of eggs hidden outside!

Until later, have a great day!

Questions:
1) What is your insomnia remedy? I heard eating cheese works?!
2) Did you have a good weekend?
3) Are you racing this coming weekend?

  1. 18 days?!!? How exciting. I think a missed swim workout, 200 days before a race, is ok. You need to take care of yourself. You have so much going on, I'm amazed you can sleep at all. Good luck with the packing :)
    Wine is my insomnia remedy.

  2. don't say that 18 days part, that makes me too sad :( Sorry about the insomnia. Sometimes when I can't sleep, I try switching sides and sleeping at the foot of the bed. I don't know why, but it works every so often. Glad you guys had a good easter!! I can't wait to see you weds!

  3. That sucks that you can't sleep. I've been having a hard time with it too lately. Maybe I'll try counting whales...

18 days? That's so soon! We'll be moving at almost the same time, but in totally different directions.

It looks like Julia had a terrific Easter! I walked right by the half-price candy last night in Walmart as I was thinking of how you would do the same! Thanks for the motivation.

Don't sweat missing a workout now and again. You're going to be amazing come race day!

  4. Unfortunately I don't have any good tricks for falling asleep - I wish :) Good luck with everything - I think everything you are tackling is amazing! Parenting, moving, training, working - I don't know how you do it :)

  5. So sorry to hear about your insomnia - not being able to sleep is THE WORST. Especially when you have a full day planned!

What a great Easter basket - lucky Julia! I swung by the half-off Easter candy at Target yesterday and put together a belated basket for us. All that chocolate is so hard to pass up!

  6. Eating cheese huh? Mine is usually going and sleeping in the other bed or on the couch. When I was a kid I would flip the other way and lay with my head at the foot of the bed but that wouldnt work so good when you have a sleeping mate!

  7. Sunday nights are the worst for me - I usually give up and just pick up a book! I've heard hot milk works...?

  8. No wonder you have insomnia! You have a lot on your plate besides moving!!! I can't wait to follow your journey. I'm always in amazement of triathlon people much less Ironman participants! So excited to be a Sweat Pink Ambassador with you!

  10. Good luck for the move!

I've been experiencing insomnia lately myself, which is very unlike me. It is a frustrating experience, that is for sure! I don't have any fail safe remedies (other than staying away from caffeine for many hours before bed) but I hope you get some relief soon.
