Did you survive the first 3 days of the week? I hope so. The end is in sight - thank goodness. Have had a
I just love this picture...no real reason behind it! (via Google)
And today, I felt like the universe absolutely hated me!
Ever have ups and downs like that so drastic that you wonder if there is some gravitational pull that is disturbing life as you know it? Interesting phenomenon - maybe it's true.

But the good thing is today is over and I'm bound and determined that the rest of the week will be better. It will be in the 70s here (global warming, much??), my Spartans are playing on Friday night and Julia and I are heading to Columbus for the weekend to see the games!
Not sure where I got this but I love it!
So back to the topic at hand: this week in my Ironman training.
I only had 2 days with double workouts but Coach Roman has started to increase my mileage/time for each workout. I'm up to 90 minutes on the bike, 7 1/2 miles with a tempo run and 1800 meters swimming.
The biggest thing with my training this week was getting my bike properly fitted on Monday! I went with my dad to see his coach who helped adjust my pedals, gave me a new seat, adjusted my handlebars, had me get a proper pair of bike shorts (hello padding!) and I feel like a new person. Amazing what a few small tweaks make.
Ok I wasn't quite this bad but... (via Google)
In total:
- Swam 5,400 meters
- Ran 19 1/2 miles (including 7 1/2 mile tempo)
- Biked about 45 miles (2 1/2 hours)
- Total training time: about 6 1/2 hours, give or take
Onto Week 7!
Questions:
1) How is your training going?
2) How do you handle up and down days?
3) How is the weather by you?

Today was amazingly beautiful! We had to turn our air on.
ReplyDeleteI am excited for you to go to C'bus. I haven't been there since Christmas.
I'm actually not handling the downs so well right now. I'm getting my workouts in, but that is about it. Ryan has been really busy with work, and I don't see him much these days :(
I had crazy insomnia on Monday night too!!! I fell asleep at 5am only to be awakened at 7am to get the trio off to school. What was THAT about? Geesh.. my week has been trying to recover ever since.
ReplyDeleteI hope your week gets better and a Sparty win in C-Bus would certainly make it so!!!!
Go Green.
Great job with the training. I don't have insomnia, but I have a problem staying up too late. Sometimes I can't force myself to stop doing junk (like right now reading blogs). When I have my down days I tell myself to just start whatever activity it is that I am dreading. Even if it's a tempo run that I am dreading, I tell myself to just start running at whatever pace, and I eventually fall into the right speed. It's the getting started that is hard for me when I don't feel like doing anything but sitting on my tush.
ReplyDeletebahah at that last pic! Hope your insomnia is better now. You are crushing your training. Way to go! Seriously, especially with your lack of sleep. You're like superwoman. Besides yesteday, training is going well. Have fun this weekend. even though I'm not a march madness person, I'm excited for you :)
ReplyDeleteI hate those up and down days. At least the Spartans are killing it, so that'll keep you happy! Great work on all the training. I'm always impressed that you're so busy and still fit it all in. That picture of the bike helmets cracked me up! :) I hope the bike fitting and new stuff makes you even faster than you already are. Way to go, Erika!
ReplyDeleteI too have been plagued with insomnia lately especially with daylight savings time! It stinks and I'm hoping that it's just a phase. The weather has been amazing here in NYC. Great job with your training and love love love the bike helmet fit photo!
ReplyDeleteI handle ups and downs by having a mini crying fit, then realizing I should be dealing with my problems by having a glass of wine and Chinese and Oreo poke cake with you gals. It's much more fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on week #6! You're killing it out there!
My training is sporadic if I want to be generous with myself. I should be building up my base but I had too many aches and pains over the past few weeks to be any good. So lame. I really have no excuse since you are kicking butt, even with all you have going on! That bike helmet picture is hilarious!
